The depiction for Nepenthese is from an article in Uhrwerk Magazin 3. It is mentioned there that:

Unter Marsianern heißt es, nur Umbranisch wäre besser für Lyrik geeignet als Nepenthesisch. [...] Obwohl die Reiternomaden der Nepenthes-Toth-Steppe keine Schriftkultur haben, verfügen sie über eine große Masse mündlich überlieferter Lieder, Fabeln und Sagenzyklen.

We could therefore assume that when a marsian would try to write down oral stories told in Nepenthese, the Umbran calligraphy might best be suited for its expressiveness and that the depiction is actually Umbran calligraphy as there is no written Nepenthese.
